Why It Matters

What Aircraft Detailing Actually Involves

Aircraft detailing isn't a car wash with extra steps. The materials, the access constraints, and the consequences of getting it wrong are all different.

Aircraft skin is typically aluminum (often anodized or painted with polyurethane systems like Imron, Jet Glo, or Matterhorn White), composite panels, and acrylic windows that scratch under abrasives that wouldn't touch automotive paint. Helicopter rotor blades, leading-edge boots, static wicks, and pitot-static systems all require specific care β€” or specific avoidance β€” during exterior wash and polish.

Miami compounds the problem. South Florida's coastal climate is one of the most punishing environments for aircraft skin in North America.

Daily salt-laden humidity penetrates hangar doors and settles on every horizontal surface. UV index regularly exceeds 11 in summer β€” accelerating polyurethane oxidation and chalking on parked aircraft. Hard-water spotting from afternoon thunderstorms etches into windshields and leading edges within hours when the aircraft is sun-baked. And exhaust soot from APU runs and turbine starts bonds chemically to paint over time, especially around the empennage and engine nacelles.

Professional detailing addresses all of this with aviation-specific products and methodology: pH-neutral aircraft wash soaps (no alkaline degreasers near aluminum), purpose-formulated leading-edge polishes, acrylic-safe window cleaners (no ammonia), and aircraft-rated waxes or ceramic coatings designed for the temperature swings and chemical exposure aviation paint sees on a typical mission. Done correctly and on a schedule, this preserves paint life, supports resale value, and keeps your aircraft presenting like the asset it is.

We've used Ale's team for our Citation XLS for over a year. They show up when they say they will, work clean, and the FBO never has to chase them for paperwork. Aircraft looks better than the day we took delivery.

Ceramic coating on our King Air was the best decision we made. South Florida humidity used to leave water spots on the leading edges every flight. Now it sheets right off and the paint stays glossy between trips.

Helicopter detailing is a different beast and most car detailers won't touch it. Ale's crew clearly knows rotorcraft β€” protected the swashplate, didn't touch the rotor heads with anything aggressive, and the cabin came out spotless.

How We Work

From Hangar Walk-Around to Departure

A predictable, FBO-friendly process designed around aviation operations and crew schedules.

01

Hangar Walk-Around

We meet you at the hangar, walk the aircraft together, document existing condition, and confirm scope and timeline before any work begins.

02

FBO Coordination

We coordinate ramp access and hangar entry directly with your FBO. Insurance certificate provided in advance with FBO listed as additionally insured.

03

Self-Contained Setup

Our mobile unit arrives with deionized water, portable power, aviation-rated chemistry, and LED inspection lighting. No hangar utilities required.

04

Aircraft-Specific Protocol

Pitot tubes, static ports, and antennas covered. No high-pressure on rotor heads or composite panels. Acrylic-safe products throughout.

05

Final Walk-Through

We do a final inspection with you under hangar lighting before sign-off. All covers removed and verified. Aircraft ready for departure or hangar storage.

06

Recurring Schedule

Most clients move to recurring monthly or pre-trip detailing. We track your usage and schedule around it β€” not the other way around.

FAQ

Aircraft Detailing β€” Common Questions

Everything pilots, owners, and flight department managers ask before booking.

How much does aircraft detailing cost in Miami?
Pricing depends on aircraft size, paint condition, and scope. Hangar Refresh starts at $850 for light aircraft. Pre-Trip Concours starts at $1,800. Annual Restoration with ceramic coating starts at $4,500. We provide a firm quote after a hangar walk-around β€” no aircraft is the same and we don't believe in placeholder pricing for assets like these.
Are you insured for aircraft work?
Yes. We carry $2 million in commercial general liability with hangar-keepers coverage. We provide a Certificate of Insurance to your FBO within 24 hours of booking, with the FBO and aircraft owner listed as additionally insured if requested. We've worked through compliance with most major South Florida FBOs including Signature, Atlantic Aviation, Banyan, Sheltair, and Million Air.
Which airports do you service?
All major South Florida executive and general aviation airports including Opa-locka (KOPF), Miami Executive (KTMB), Fort Lauderdale Executive (KFXE), Miami International GA (KMIA), Boca Raton (KBCT), North Perry (KHWO), and Pompano Beach (KPMP). We can travel further for fleet contracts.
Do you do dry wash, or do you need water and power?
We can do either. Our standard setup includes a fully self-contained mobile unit with deionized water (zero spotting) and portable power β€” we don't require anything from the hangar or FBO. For environments where wet wash isn't permitted, we use aviation-rated dry wash chemistry with microfiber towels. Most heavy jet work we do is dry wash by FBO requirement.
Is ceramic coating worth it on an aircraft?
For aircraft based in coastal climates like Miami, yes. Aviation-rated ceramic coatings significantly extend the life of polyurethane paint systems by blocking UV oxidation, preventing exhaust soot from chemically bonding, and shedding water and contaminants between washes. We use coatings rated for the temperature swings and chemical exposure aircraft paint sees in service. Coating warranties range from 2 to 5 years with proper maintenance.
Can you detail my aircraft while it's in maintenance?
Often, yes β€” and it's actually our preferred timing for full restorations. Coordinating detailing during a scheduled inspection means panels are off, interiors may already be pulled, and we can access areas that are otherwise inaccessible. We work directly with your maintenance shop to schedule around their critical path so we don't extend the down time.
How long does aircraft detailing take?
A Hangar Refresh on a light single takes 4–6 hours. A Pre-Trip Concours on a mid-size jet is typically a full day. Annual restoration with paint correction and ceramic coating ranges from 2 days for a King Air to 4 days for a heavy jet. We always quote a realistic window β€” aircraft work is not something to rush.
Do you handle interior leather, divans, and galleys?
Yes. Aircraft interior detailing is a specialty within the specialty. We deep-clean and condition leather seating and divans, sanitize galleys and lavatories with aviation-approved products, clean cabin air vents and headliner panels, polish wood veneer trim, and address any odor issues. For corporate or charter aircraft where interior presentation matters as much as exterior, this is often the most important part of the service.
Do you offer fleet or recurring contracts?
Yes. We work with Part 135 charter operators, fractional ownership programs, corporate flight departments, and management companies. Volume pricing, dedicated scheduling, monthly reporting, and consolidated billing available. See our fleet program details.
Can you detail my helicopter?
Yes, with helicopter-specific protocols. We don't apply high-pressure water within 6 feet of dynamic components. Rotor heads, swashplates, and tail rotors get hand-cleaned with rotorcraft-safe chemistry. Main and tail rotor blades are inspected, cleaned, and polished separately with leading-edge attention. Most of our rotorcraft work is on Bell, Robinson, Airbus H125/H130, and Sikorsky platforms.
